Hi, I’m Jess, a photographer based in London, covering feminist and queer weddings across the UK and Internationally.

I work with equally minded couples of all kinds to photograph their weddings and civil partnerships.

My focus is on fitting around you and your enjoyment of the day as it unfolds.

My couples tell me that they felt they could be themselves with me, and that the photos felt like a natural part of the celebrations.

Representation matters: a focus on LGBTQ+ weddings

I work with couples to create images that reflect their personalities and connection. The most important thing to me is that the people I work with feel safe, understood and seen.

What do you hope to see when you look back on your celebration?

Most of my couples tell me that they look forward to seeing themselves immersed in their day with the people they love. I’m a documentary and editorial style wedding photographer, which means I’m here to help guide but not direct the action, and take a combination of portraits and ‘in the moment’ images, with a focus on emotion, energy and dramaturgy. My approach is often described as unscripted and spontaneous, and my favourite compliment from clients is, ‘it felt like having another friend there with us on the day’.

I’ll be there to help make naturally joyful, real images happen while you’re caught up in the moment.

We discovered Jess on an LGBTQ+ wedding website and immediately knew we wanted to work with her. As a queer couple, it felt like we were running into walls searching for someone who would make us feel comfortable and understood our vision. From day one Jess was communicative, professional and really took the time to listen to us. When it came to the wedding, it truly felt like we had a friend taking photos for us. She blended in so well with our guests and captured so many beautiful authentic moments that we’ll cherish forever. We also just loved hanging out with her (our guests too). Amazing human, amazing photographer!

In short, Jess Rose is the best and you should absolutely book her for your wedding. She took such amazing photos and totally captured the farm/woodland/festival vibe of our day. Not even a mid-ceremony rain shower or a rusty Land Rover could put her off her game! So many friends have commented on our wedding photos and several have since enquired to book Jess for their own big day - that really does say it all!

ETHOS & LGBTQ+ WEDDINGS

I knew I wanted to specialise in Feminist and LGBTQ+ weddings after a tiny lesbian wedding in Scotland in 2017. We were joined for the ceremony by a legend of a celebrant named Frank, who afterwards directed a session with the two brides. As much as we all protested, he couldn’t help but try to direct them enthusiastically into heteronormative poses; the one in a suit must be the more masculine of the two. His heart was in the right place, but there’s more to us than stereotypes. Sorry Frank!

Of course, it’s not just LGBTQ+ couples that are radically changing the way weddings are done. Equal couples of all kinds are finding new ways to celebrate their love for each another, without feeling the need to conform to traditions which don’t align with their values as a couple. It is a joy to work with couples who have planned their day as a partnership, leaving the idea that wedding planning is ‘women’s work’ in the past.
