Festival wedding inspiration in the heart of Wales

“Our advice to other couples would be to do it your way and don’t sweat the little things”

Festival Style Wedding

This glitter wedding was unconventional, unique and all-round incredible. Llinos and her tribe of bridesmaids got ready at her parents farm, where the reception would also take place later. In the morning, there were dark clouds passing over the Dyfi Valley, but these soon broke out into bright sunshine; glorious against the fancy dress and festivities of bridal preparations. The rain helped create a waking-up-at-a-festival feeling; instead of tumbling out of their tents, the bridal party were camped out in a glasshouse annex, which was packed with creative details, sequins and glitter. The bridesmaids wore festival style dresses.

Wedding choir

Llinos and Oli had their unconventional wedding ceremony in the iconic Sheppard Theatre at The Centre for Alternative Technology (known by locals as CAT), near Machynlleth. The 7-metre high, rammed earth walled space is usually host to conferences and meetings, and I’m not sure it’s ever held as many colourful costumes and a chorus of ‘Three Little Birds’ before! '

“It wouldn’t be a Welsh wedding without a collective singing opportunity!”

We took some portraits around the big green gardens of the CAT centre amongst the flowers, then the couple sped off in a little green Jaguar to their reception.

Confetti canons

Llinos and Oli made one hell of an entrance, zooming into the farmyard in the Jag to the sounds of a brass band, dressed in bright pink. They’d encouraged their guests to wear ‘fancy fancy dress, and everyone really got on board with it and looked incredible. Here at the reception site, they had their second ceremony, exchanging intricate head-dresses, followed by an explosion of confetti. The couple and their wedding party had a confetti canon each, and set them off at the same time, making for some incredible confetti photos.

Food trucks and mini venues

The couple had wanted for their guests to feel free to totally roam, explore and enjoy, exactly as you would at a festival. There was a bathtub ball-pit, several mini-venues (Snugglers Cove, Garden of Feeden, Nigel’s Barnacle), and trucks offering wonderful vegetarian food throughout the day.

“We wanted to share the joy and fun of a festival experience with our larger circle of family and friends who have yet to go to that type of event”

Outdoor dancing

As the sun started to set, the glitter wedding party headed over to an incredible spot which looks over the valley, dancing wild and free. Live music played all day, moving and changing as the celebrations went on. More confetti canons were blasted all over the guests partying in the yard, before the evening drew in and everyone moved to one of the barns for a DJ set, complete with lasers.

The energy and festivities of the day were an absolute joy to capture!
