Pre-wedding photography

A pre wedding shoot can be a really valuable investment if you have any worries about being in front of the camera, or would like some photographs in a totally different context to your wedding day plans.

For example, you might be getting married in the countryside but want to capture your urban life in the city. For your pre wedding shoot, I usually recommend we use this time to photograph you immersed in an activity, like getting tacos, tattoos, or even taking a boat trip. This gives an opportunity to capture you caught up in the moment, and means you’re much less likely to feel awkward. If you have children, a pre wedding shoot can offer a more relaxed chance to photograph you together with them, in an environment they feel at home in.

Pre wedding shoots are usually a relaxed 2 hours long, with time for location and outfit changes, and are available as an add-on service to any of the packages above for £350 or as a stand-alone option for £400. Your photos will be delivered within 10 days, and can be used for your wedding website, RSVPs or for hearts on the gram.

We wanted an LGBTQ+, preferably Queer, documentary style photographer to shoot our wedding and we struck gold with Jess. She is such a talent and expert in her field and an absolute joy to communicate with. She made us feel at ease and relaxed on the day. We also had a pre-wedding shoot with Jess which I would definitely recommend if you’re a little anxious about having your photo taken. A relaxed drink and a chilled stroll resulting in feeling at ease and getting some lovely photos definitely eased the pre wedding nerves.

Short story long, you should get Jess to shoot your day.

I take on a limited number of weddings per year, because I like to give each one my all and to take the time to get to know my couples well. Available dates tend to book up a year in advance.

Pricing for wedding photography includes two consultations in person, on the phone or over Zoom. The consultation is an opportunity to get to know one another, and we can talk about anything you like. Sometimes, couples bring lots of questions about their wedding day timings, or share insecurities about having their photo taken. Others talk passionately about their experiences so far as a queer couple planning a gay wedding in a straight world. Often, though, it ends up being a chat, and I hope that when you hang up the call you feel that you have a new friend on your side.

Pricing for wedding photography isn't always one-size-fits-all. If your plans don't quite match up with any of the above options, you can contact me for a full pricing guide and to discuss bespoke hours. Before hitting the button, please scroll down for answers to frequently asked questions.

 QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

  • Absolutely! I’m always keen to head off to see new places, and familiar ones too. Lara (my wife) was based in Leeds for years, so the North has a special place in our hearts, as does my home country, Wales. Travel costs are included within England and Wales.

If you're planning a wedding further afield then please enquire. I take on a small number of destination weddings per year.

  • Yes, there is a non-refundable deposit of £500, payable upon signing a contract which books me in to cover your day. The remaining balance is due 4 weeks before the wedding date.

  • You'll receive a link to a password-protected online gallery, which you can share with friends and family. I no longer provide usb's because digital galleries are a more eco-friendly option, with better longevity. If you’ve booked a full day package, you’ll also receive an envelope of 20 fine art prints. Head over to the ‘prints & film’ section of my website to see your options for hard-copy versions of your images.

  • Of course! Love is love.

  • Most couples request a small number of formal group photographs, usually to keep family members happy! How do you feel about these? We’ll talk about it during the consultation, and work with you to fit the formal photos into your day in a way that feels most relaxed for you.

  • How do you feel about being photographed? We’ll talk about this during the consultation and will always prioritise your comfort and enjoyment of the day. The ‘couple photos’ can be fitted in around your plans, whether in short bursts when the light hits right at various points throughout the day, or as a longer block of time. The latter is really an opportunity to take a walk and have a breather. I focus on your connection, and give you as much time as you need to relax into your photographs.

  • You have full printing rights, which means you’re welcome to print and share your images however and wherever you’d like. You also have the right to request that your images are kept private. Your photographer owns the copyright of the images, which means that you can’t sell them for profit and require permission before distributing them to other suppliers. We are always happy to offer other suppliers licensing to use the images on their social media pages, with credit.
