Gelli Fair Wedding. LGBTQ+ Weddings in Wales

Natasha and Din found me through one of my best friends, one of the most brilliant women I know, so I knew we were already on to a good thing. We got on well from the off, and kept in touch leading up to the wedding. Not everyone wants to chat to their wedding photographer about details like a suit going missing in Hong Kong, but some do and I’m here for it. I was very happy to arrive home in Wales on the Saturday morning after travelling late at night from a wedding in Central London the day before; it was like being in a different world. The morning was full of laughs with the best people, with messages passed back and forth between over whether or not, since the sun was shining, they’d get married outside. In the end it was decided that Wales was still, in March, too cold for an outdoor ceremony.

Here is a selection of my favourite images from this beautiful Welsh wedding. Expect smoke bombs, many flamingoes and some golden, golden sun…

First Look Photos

This is a wedding trend that’s made it’s way over from America, gaining popularity at weddings here in the UK. It can be a really nice way to add a bit of drama into your wedding photos, and can be fun to organise as it involves a bit of hide and seek. The wonderful staff at Gelli Fawr did a brilliant job of making sure Din couldn’t see Tash while she walked up to join her before their ceremony. The couple then walked into their ceremony together. I think this sends a really lovely message of partnership and equality. The first look gives you a moment alone together, and allows for that moment of surprise without you needing to enter the ceremony separately.

Gelli Fawr offers the option of an outdoor ceremony, but the indoor space has that inside-outside vibe, with lots of light flooding in and the wood panelling lending a natural feel.

Smoke Bomb wedding photos at golden hour

Smoke bombs can add interest to your wedding photos but always be aware of the risks and check with your venue before purchasing any. We positioned them a distance from Din and Tash and let them billow pink smoke into the frame. We were blessed with the most golden of golden hours at Gelli Fawr, and given full use of the grounds to take photos. The gardens are beautifully kept and the strings of fairy lights in the trees offer a gorgeous backdrop.

All you need is vole, and a dozen inflatable flamingoes

Din and Tash deciding to leave the LOVE letters where they’d been placed, spelling VOLE, was a highlight for me, as were the inflatable flamingoes and banana costume that were cracked out on the dancefloor. There was also a glitter bar (can’t go wrong) and a killer band. Live music can really make a wedding day. The guests were on form and I don’t think anyone left the dancefloor before midnight. What a wedding.

LGBT Weddings in Wales

Are you getting married in Wales? I’d love to come home to photograph it for you! I’m based in London but travel all over for weddings, and especially love to head to my home country for weddings. Gelli Fawr is a beautiful, laid back choice of venue and I’d love to re-visit. If you’re looking for a wedding photographer in Wales click here to get in touch.
